This is terrible. Absolutely horrendous. I don’t even
want to talk about it. I even consider myself a Mike Myers fan,
but I don’t think I laughed out loud a single time. A
few smiles, but no laughs.
I had heard things to this effect before I went in, but I thought,
“Hey, it’s Dr. Seuss. How bad can it be? It will
be fun to look at, at the least.” But that’s just
it. Literally. It’s fun to look at, at the very least.
The colorful sets are actually the only thing that kept me from
walking out of this one.
The story revolves around Sally (Dakota Fanning) and Conrad
(Spenser Breslin), who are left at home alone but are entertained
by the sudden presence of the Cat in the Hat (Mike Myers). Things
quickly become messy and so the kids try to keep things covered
up while they also discover that their mother’s boyfriend
(Alec Baldwin) is actually a loser and try to warn her (Kelly
Preston) of the fact.
Clearly aimed towards children (very young children, I’m
thinking), The Cat in the Hat is about as entertaining as an
episode of The Wiggles. Hat is fully of silly stunts, stupid
lines and jokes that just fall flat. Though certainly colorful,
it’s like a messy fingerpainting – it’s just
a mess.
